Why Skymeba chose the pigeon — and how three flocking rules shape the way we deliver cybersecurity.
You may wonder why Skymeba chose the pigeon as our logo mascot. Pigeons are widely perceived as pests — often dismissed as “flying rats.” We didn't know much about them either, until we fostered one from the Calgary Humane Society. Among scientists, bird enthusiasts, and historians, the impression is completely reversed: pigeons are regarded as an exceptionally elite animal.
Pigeons possess cognitive abilities that rival primates. They can count, recognize every letter of the human alphabet, and reliably distinguish a Monet from a Picasso. They carry an astonishing “homing” instinct — by sensing the Earth's magnetic field, navigating by the sun, and picking up low-frequency infrasound, a pigeon can find its way back to its loft from more than 1,000 miles away. Long before modern telecommunications, these “obsolete” birds saved thousands of lives, carried decisive military messages through enemy fire, and earned medals for bravery.
At Skymeba, we take that same underestimated excellence into cybersecurity. We follow the flocking rules.
Three simple rules keep a flock coordinated in flight without a central controller. The same three rules keep a security practice sharp, current, and honest.
We stay on top of the latest cybersecurity and AI trends, threats, and technologies — so our clients' controls, architectures, and governance keep pace with a moving threat landscape rather than lagging behind it.
We move with the cybersecurity and AI industry and maintain deep fluency in the regulations and frameworks that shape it — ITSG-33, ITSP.10.033, ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST CSF, NIST AI RMF, and ISO 42001 — so our advice is always anchored to authoritative guidance.
We keep enough distance from the flock to think independently. Every engagement gets our own judgment — not recycled templates, vendor talking points, or one-size-fits-all checklists. That separation is what lets us challenge assumptions, tailor controls to your real risk profile, and give you honest, defensible recommendations your auditors, regulators, and executives can stand behind.
The pigeon isn't just a mascot — it's a working metaphor for how we deliver security services.
